Having been inside both recently – the Kings is in much better shape, and will be much easier to restore. However, I don’t think the Keith’s is beyond repair. I hope that the development falls through and someone comes along to restore the theater.
I was in the area so I swung by the Kings – tons of asbestos abatement permits on the front windows, and lots of garbage bags out back. Looks like work has actually started.
Even if the Uptown gets the money next year, I doubt it will open by 2015. This stuff takes time. Last I heard (and it was confirmed by the Ditmas Park Corner) ACE is still trying to figure out the best way to replicate the decor of the theater.
It says right on the front page of ACE’s website “Projected to open in 2015” You guys are such pessimists. Just because they’re not announcing every single step, doesn’t mean nothing is going on.
John – I don’t know anything about the developers plans other than what’s been said already. I can confirm that there is nothing left of the Rainbow Theatre except for the shell.
I didn’t think anything was being restored. Pretty sure they gutted the building completely.
Here’s a blog post and some photographs of the Embassy Theatre
Mr. Greenberg – I may be able to help you. Please e-mail me at when you get a chance.

Yes. She shot that down in the same post that she mentioned how happy she was to hear it was being restored.
She’s aware of it. She mentioned it on her blog a while back.

The plans for RPI to restore the theater fell through. It is going to be restored by another company though.

The projection booth was empty and not very memorable. I’ll check and see if I have any images of it though.
