I think you are thinking of the Ambassador, which was called the Knickerbocker when the roof collapsed in 1922. Killed 98 people. Rebuilt and call the Ambassador after that.

Classic shape of a theater, could this be it on Main just off 5th St.?

Can anyone verify the name? Another drive-in site lists this as Lincolnway.

Here’s Federal Blvd and Euclid intersection circa 1964. A large drive in appears at the SE corner of the intersection.

Was located at 3930 Clarksville Pike, Nashville, TN 37220 United States.

MAP HERE

The green, roundish clump of trees in the field directly behind the store is where the screen stood, facing NorthWest. Verified in 1992 Google Earth view.

Maybe they are not counting the years they were closed? They also said they are in their 2nd season, which means they reopened in 2009, not 2010. It should, anyway.

From their own website:

The Mighty Auto Theatre is 90 feet wide and 40 feet tall. The Theatre will be celebrating its 60th birthday this year! Come and join us. If you wish to advertise with us in front of our elaborate playground, contact us.

The Screen was first lite up sometime in the 1930’s. It played until 1955 under the eyes of Olin Turner. Pete Zouras took over in ‘55. The summer that Walking Tall was a big hit, the screen tower was replaced. Pete stayed until the mid 1980’s.

Pete never played an “X” rated movie. The last picture he played was King Kong.

The screen was dark until the summer of 1999. It ran for 4 or 5 weeks. The Big Screen has been dark since.

Then came Tommy and Carolyn.

This is our second season at the Drive In. We made it through the cold months of winter. Yes, even when it was 14 degrees outside, we still had a nice turnout. We can put a picture on the screen through rain, sleet, and snow – as long as the flakes are not too big! We are currently working on a second screen. This will give you a bigger selection of movies when you come. You can always be assured that “the special movie” you want to see will be here. The parking ramps are already in place and the grass planted.

If it’s in Gate City, then the likely place is on W. Jackson St. I found a coupe of places that looked they could have been theaters.

Well, how about Spanky’s is at 1 Main St, and Mart’s at 9 Main St. The theater was between those, and right next door to Mart’s today. Let’s call the theater at 7 Main St, and leave it at that. Just take a little searching on Google……

Street View shows the building in the place of the old drive in is Captain Joe’s Seafood 2115 Golden Isle E. Mapping is off by quite a ways however with that address.

Manatee Ave is the main E-W drag through Bradenton. Also called Hwy 64. Use the map link above, but take out the ZIP Code.

Woz, who started Apple Computers says in his book that he bought the Mayfair Theater in San Jose for his wife to have. It would have been around 1983 or so. I don’t think it’s this place, but does anyne have any idea which Mayfair in San Jose it might be?

On Ocilla Rd or Ocilla Hwy there was a small drive in. You can still make out the sweeping outline of the tree line of the back row area, from upper left to lower right. The screen was facing away from the highway, on the left side of this shot. Still visible in 1993 Google Earth.

At 1129 N. Tennessee St. was the site of one of the drive-ins in Cartersville, GA. You can still see the lower SE corner of the drive in property. The screen would have been right there in the triangle shaped corner not covered in asphalt.

Read the story I posted to the royal DI page….

I doubt that both the Meridian and Royal had similar castle theming. But I could be wrong.

Take a look at the photos I linked to on the Royal DI also in Meridian. It also shows the castle looking buildings also. They had a place called Royal Land according to the pics.

Wow, they start movies at 2:30 am on a Wednesday night? Not like people in MI need to get up and go to work I suppose…
