Update: they found a fix for the window boxed scope image in the RPX. It looks to me that they altered the size of the screen although I might be wrong. In any event, the image now fills the entire screen.

Check out auditorium 8 and its glowing red EXIT sign BEHIND the screen clearly visible while viewing a movie.

They are now projecting scope movies “windowboxed” on that big, beautiful new scope screen in the RPX. I was told the screen is too big for the new projector to project an image big enough to fill the screen. So now the scope image has blank space all around it. THIS is a “premium experience???”

The new 4DX screen is substantially smaller than the screen that was in there before. They created larger entryways and needed space for the 4DX equipment. I would say that screen is maybe 40’ now as opposed to 60’ before.

Regal has destroyed this location with their “renovations.” Not only does it feature sloppy presentations but is also aesthetically ordinary. It’s a big black box with some neon accents. They’ve removed everything that made it unique from the big lobby with the mural on the ceiling, the whimsical circular concession stand to the very NYC specific murals on the walls and the big red curtain on the window looking onto 42 st, to the big beautiful marquee. It’s tragic. This place could now be located in a mall in Idaho. It is completely lacking in charm and character. Shame on Regal.

  1. Bedbug bites last summer. Saw two movies here that day: Top Gun in 9 and Jurassic in IMAX. Don’t know in which one I was bitten but it hardly matters - the critters are mobile. Haven’t been back since.
  2. Nobody went here when it first opened. Now it might be more ghetto than the Empire. I have felt unsafe here. It now attracts a particularly rude and rowdy crowd.
  3. Since the renovation, theaters 1, 10 and 14 no longer have masking. Last time I checked, 4, 5, 9, 11 and 12 still had masking. Don’t know about 2, 3, 6 or 7. Might go back soon wearing minimal clothing that I can throw away to avoid bringing critters home. Was also bitten at the Empire in number 25. Sad that you have to consider these things when going to a movie.

Hello. Does anyone know how this place was cut up. Thanks.

Hey Ctrain! It went from 10 to 12 by splitting the two big rooms that were next to each other in the center of the building. Then from 12 to 14 by splitting the two remaining big rooms. This all resulted in 14 bowling alley type auditoriums. There was never an add on. If there was an add on, there would have still been the two big rooms - but there weren’t. I grew up with this theater.

Theater one: scope movies window boxed on scope screen. No one knows how to expand the picture. Theater two: picture isn’t centered. Bare screen on left, picture projected onto masking on the right. Theater four: picture is dark with an out of focus spot right in the center. Theater nine: since summer of 2019!!!! Dialogue comes from right channel speaker behind the screen rather than from the center channel where it belongs. Notified multiple “managers” who are clueless. Called Regal corporate who seem not to care because these issues are ongoing.

This place had four “big” rooms and six small ones. No screens were ever added. At some point in the late 80s, two big rooms were split. Sometime in the mid 90s the other two big rooms were split. Grand total of 14 bowling alley type theaters.
