In the late 70s/early 80s, a bunch of us kids used to go into the drive in and turn up the speakers closest to the fence, near the Edwards grocery store. This way we could come back in the evening and view the movie through the fence while hearing it from the speakers we cranked up. I did see a number of movies the traditional way, that being paying for entry. But as a kid with limited spending money, our makeshift method was sufficient.

We used to go here on occasion when it was a two screen drive in. My mom used to sneak in a bag of popcorn and have my aging sister in pigtails while slumping in the back seat to get her in for children’s price. The final movies I remember seeing here were pretty awful; Friday the 13th Part V and Porky’s Revenge. I still enjoy the occasional drive-in setting, if anything but for the nostalgia of it.

It was a shame to see this theater built, go through some ups and downs, and be torn down in a relatively short time. I saw a lot a of budget screenings here, and would often see movies, such as Silence of the Lambs and Misery, multiple times because of the price and convenience. But I also know this is not a great neighborhood, which likely contributed to its fate.

I saw so many movies here in the early 80s. Monday night was “Ladies Night” so entry was had for $1, and we sure took advantage of it. We loved scary movies at the time so here’s a selection of what we viewed at this cinema: One Dark Night, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Children of the Corn, Evil Dead, American Werewolf in London, etc…

The place was run (at the time) by two men, who I would later find out were a couple. One was a dark haired man who always seemed very nice, but was said to have died in a small plane crash. The other was a blonde man who was not as friendly as the other. But still, the memories of this cinema are special to me, though it’s unfortunate that there’s not really anything left of it.
