Who owns this theater now? Sensible Cinemas no longer lists it. 21st Century Cinemas, owner of Dixon’s Plaza 4 (which was co-owned with the Midway Drive-In for a while) does not list it, either. The phone number has usually been disconnected during the off-season, but it remains disconnected now in mid-April. I hope it has not closed permanently.
This theater is now operated by 21st Century Cinemas, the same company operating the nearby Plaza 4 in Dixon. The site layout looks very similar to the Sensible Cinemas site, which makes me think the companies may be related. The SterlingTheater.com site linked above is now gone.
I have not done an official count, but as a regular Cantera 30 moviegoer, I am highly skeptical of that figure. 592 seats sounds about right for the four auditoriums at the center of the cineplex, but for the ones at the edges, I doubt that. I don’t even think there are half that many seats in the auditoriums furthest from the center.
The closed auditoriums were eventually gutted and turned into a Main Event Entertainment location.
To my knowledge, they are not a previous owner. Unfortunately, Bowman doesn’t seem to have a Web site to confirm that.
My sister tells me that the marquee currently indicates the theater opens for the season on May 5. I guess that answers my question.
