Regal’s new 82,500 sq ft mega-plex is a show stopper of new-deco ornament and state-of-the-art projection equipment. It was designed by TK Architects of Kansas City. There are 18 halls variously seating from 150 to 450. All auditoria are equiped with digital and 35mm projection equipment and Dolby digital sound. Additionally, two of the halls are able to project in 70mm and several halls have Dolby EX.
The facility opened to the public on June 20, 2005.

Yes yes yes, I know, very odd to hear about having 70mm in a new multiplex, but that was what was in the paper. Can’t say if they’ve ever used it or not, but with the thousands of screens that Regal owns, you don’t think they could have moved a couple of old 35/70mm machines from a different location, especially since this is their biggest venue in their hometown? Does Regal call the Pinnacle their flagship theatre? They didn’t initially, that was the West Town Mall theatre (not to be confused with their Downtown West theatre which is their Knoxville art house). At this point in time, I suspect anything they wanted to show which had originally been released on 70mm would now be transfered to digital. Now let’s all take a deep breath snd be grown-ups and refrain from saying how much we hate digital projection.
Big places like this aren’t going to go away. People need to start finding the beauty in what theatres have become.
Though I agree — most theatre patrons nowadays are idiots. Though napalm is extreme.

Renovated for its first post-shutdown reopening on August 21, 2020. I saw Tenet and Akira in the IMAX auditorium within about a week of each other. Unfortunately, we moviegoers aren’t doing enough to keep theatres open, as the theatre could close again due to the new James Bond being delayed to next April.
Oh, can anyone still remember what the opening day features were?
At any rate, if anyone has any grand opening ads, could they post them here?
Fotomac, I can’t find any lists of opening movies. I did find that three of the first movies were “Bewitched”, “Herbie: Fully Loaded”, and “Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl”.
Fotomac, from what I remember, the opening day features were:
Hope that helps!
