Savoy Cinema

Opened as an independent by Simmons Theatres on 20th March 1936, the Savoy Cinema was located in the Reading suburb of Whitley, Berkshire. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system and had a 35ft wide proscenium, a 7ft deep stage and two dressing rooms.

It was taken over and managed by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) from 18th January 1937 and they operated it until it closed on 12th August 1961.

It was demolished and a Fine Fare Supermarket was built on the site, which in 2017 is a Cotswold outdoor activity store.
