Opened in 1917 as the Rees Theatre, this theater reopened in 1937 as the Uptown Theatre after being closed for a number of years. The theater closed for good in 1954.

This theater was owned by the Stout Theater Circuit in 1950. It would have been located in the general area now occupied by an attorney’s office (3305 Sycamore) and the Cairo VFW (3313 Sycamore)

Boxoffice of July 10, 1954, said that D.B. Stout, operator of the Uptown Theatre, had announced that the house had been closed permanently as of the first of the month. The highway department was widening Sycamore Street, and the front portion of the building was to be demolished to accommodate the expanded right-of-way.
