Golden Glades Twin Drive-In

The Golden Glades Twin Drive-In was opened on February 10, 1956 with “Gary Cooper in "The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell” & Broderick Crawford in New York Confidential". The screens were named Golden Glades East and Golden Glades West and mostly played the same two films on both sides, switching prints midway. It had a capacity for 1,284 cars. There was a seating area for over 600 patrons.

One of the films was always a top first-run such as “Star Wars” and the theatre rarely showed the exploitation most other drive-ins thrived on.

It was closed March 14, 1981, most likely a victim of property values.

The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in. The street address in the current heading is correct, but the town and zip code throw off the mapping on Google Earth.

Here is a 1980 aerial photo of the drive-in, courtesy of HistoricAerials.com.

According to the grand opening ad posted by Mike Rivest, the drive-in was located on NW 167th St & 34th Ave, which is consistent with the Miami Gardens address, and not was not in North Miami Beach.

Miami Gardens did not exist when this theatre was in operation.

Al, I believe the intention is to help people understand where the drive-in once used to be, using the best possible current address information.

The Golden Glades Drive-In closed on March 14, 1981. It’s final features were FROM NOON TILL THREE with THE STRANGER RETURNS and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE with POINT OF TERROR.

Opened (after a barn dance) with “The court-martial of Billy Mitchell” and “New York confidential”.
