Opened by Cinecom Theatres Midwest States Inc. in 1971, this theater was carved out of a former Woolworths store in a strip mall. This shopping center, Gateway Plaza, was always a "b" center and this theater was never very nice. Originally opened by Cinecom out of Chicago, the 3 auditoriums were small and bland. The space is now reclaimed retail within the center. It was closed in 1998.

Andrew J. Burin of Youngstown, Ohio, designed the Gateway Cinema. Burin was the chief architect for William M. Cafaro & Associates, also of Youngstown, developers of the Gateway Plaza shopping center.
