Mystic Theater

This theater was built in 1897, remodeled in 1927, and closed in 1959. It became a church for a while. It had been abandoned since 1975. The Mystic Theater was gutted and remodeled between the summer 2001 and fall 2002.

Adds Cinema Treasures contributor Cindy Lawson:

“We’ve turned this into a large home, with the 3,000 square feet below being garage and storage space (after the floor was leveled) and the upper 1,800 square feet turned into a studio/loft apartment with a walk-out 2500 square feet terrace/patio in the back.”

I believe the theater open in 1909 i’m not sure about 1897. My grandfather and his brother opened this theater. My father was not born until after they sold the theater in the 1930s so some of the info we have is thin. I look forward to seeing and hearing more.

The Mystic finally closed as a theatre in 1959, reportedly due to declining business. For a while, the former theatre was used for church services.
