Pines Drive-In opened in 1952 about two miles east of Pinetops at Cobbs Crossroads (the intersection of NC 42 East and US 258 South). It was operated by C.A. Holiday.

The theatre was closed by the mid-1960’s, the screen was dismantled, and was reopened as Lucy’s Drive-In Restaurant; the restaurant closed by 1974. By 1978 a new structure was added to the old projection booth/concession building and reopened as a country-music nightclub called the Crossroads; this closed by 1990. The last known business to operate at this site was a used-car lot (which closed in 2009). As of this writing the projection/concession building and the nightclub addition still stands.

Thank you for finding the correct name for this drive-in. Nobody in this area remembered the name of the drive-in theater, only the restaurant that took its place. It is odd that this drive-in had the same name as the downtown theater, as both theaters operated simultaneously for several years beginning in 1952.
