Playhouse Cinema

Located in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. The New Palace Cinema was opened on 27th June 1932 by Provost Christie. It replaced the earlier Palace Cinema, and cost £10,000. The opening film was “Congress Dances”, starring Lilian Harvey & Willy Fritsch. There were 450 seats in the stalls and 136 seats in the circle.

Improvements were made to the building in May 1938, and it was reopened as the Playhouse Cinema. It had a 27 feet wide proscenium. It was operated by Highland Cinema Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd.

The Playhouse Cinema was closed in 1970. It was demolished in 2009.
