In Stroud, Gloucestershire, the Picture House was opened in August 1914. Said to have been a small cinema, with a cafe for its patrons, it was equipped with an organ of unknown make. It was later taken over by the Albany Ward Circuit. They were taken over in September 1927, with the rest of the circuit, by Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT), which itself was taken over by Gaumont British Theatres(GB) in February 1929. The cinema closed in 1932 as a silent cinema. It was re-opened from circa November 1934 until circa August 1935 while the Gaumont Palace was being built. The Picture House was then demolished and replaced by shops.
