The Edwards Santa Maria 14 held its grand opening for first-run films on November 21, 2013. This was preceded by $2 preview days for charity from November 17 to 19, which the Santa Maria Times said was attended by 20,000 patrons.
Operated by Regal Cinemas, the 2,935-seat, three-level theater was built on the site of the demolished Gottschalks department store.
Linane Drews Architects (LDA) of Burbank, California, says that the design, which includes the Town Center, has an Early California theme.
The Times noted that the 20-year-old Edwards Cinema on South Bradley would be converted to an art house.

The interior of the Edwards Santa Maria Stadium 14 can be seen in a fifteen-photo slide show on the web site of BB Architects.
Although the theater’s entrance is inside the mall, the exterior features a monumental, entrance-like structure, designed by LDA Design Group in a Spanish Colonial Revival style, facing the corner of South Broadway and East Cook Street. A single solid door in it indicates that it probably serves, rather incongruously, as a service entrance.
