Palace Cinema

Located in the Collyhurst district, north Manchester, at the corner of Rochdale Road and Collyhurst Street, adjacent to the ice rink. The Palace Cinema was opened in 1927. It was taken over by the J.F. Emery Circuit in 1938 and they operating it until around 1948. It then went to an independent exhibitor, and was closed in the mid-1950’s.

It became a bingo club in the early-1960’s which closed in the 1970’s. It was re-named Electric Circus, and became a live concert venue, where the group Joy Division made their debut performance. The Electric Circus operated for a few years, and when it closed the building was demolished.
