Burslem Skating Rink - Before Conversion into Cinema

Located in the Potteries town of Burslem, Staffordshire. The building was originally built and operated as a roller skating rink. It opened as the Burslem Picture Palace in April 1911. Seating was provided on a flat floor, with a small balcony surrounding on three sides. The projection box was built on the rear of the balcony, but this was soon changed to a projection box behind the screen.

On 21st January 1936 after a heavy snowstorm, the roof collapsed. The building was closed that day in respect of the death of King George V who had died the previous evening. The building was demolished and the New Palace Cinema was built on the site, which opened in October 1936.
