Palace Cinema 1930s

Located in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. The Agricultural Hall was built around 1886. By 1914 it was screening films. Around 1919 it was briefly re-named Tivoli Cinema, but was soon re-named Palace Cinema. It was programming pictures and variety from the mid-1920s and there were three dressing rooms for the artistes. In 1931 it was equipped with a Classitone sound system, which was replaced by a Western Electric sound system in 1934.

The Palace Cinema was closed (like all cinemas were) at the outbreak of World War II in September 1939. It never reopened, as it had been superseded by the new Majestic Cinema which had opened in November 1937. The Palace Cinema was converted into retail use, and the building was demolished in the early-1970’s and a Woolworth’s store was built on the site, in 2015 a Superdrug store..
