In Prestwick, on the west coast of Scotland, nothing now remains of the Picture House - except this advert on the gable end of a building opposite St. Nicholas Church in Main Street, which says “Visit the Prestwick Picture House”.
The Picture House opened in the 1920’s. The 1931, 1940 and 1953 Kinematograph Year Books list the owner as Prestwick Picture House Ltd. Locally known as the ‘bug hut’, it closed about 1960.
The building was used by a motor factory until 1976, when it was destroyed by a fire. A block of flats now occupies the site, alongside the local library.
