The Kinema was opened in the 1920’s and was operated by F.C. Weyford. It had a 18ft 6inch wide proscenium. In 1933 it was operated by Mrs J.C. Abernethy and had been equipped with a Mihaly sound system. By 1936 it was operated by Bury St. Edmunds Cinemas Ltd. In 1937 it was taken over by the Bostock Cinema Circuit and it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system.

By 1955 it was operated by the Dunmow Kinema Company and was equipped with CinemaScope in 1957. It briefly became a bingo club after its closure in 1960.

Later it became the Essex Garden Machinery Centre and in early-1993 it was converted into the Dunmow Shopping Arcade.

By 2017 it is in use as the Samui Tai Restaurant.
