Palace Cinema

Located in Brentwood, Essex. The Electric Picture Palace was opened in 1914, a conversion of a former drapery shop, which retained its frontage. In 1934 it was altered to the plans of architect Frederick Edward Jones and the roof was raised to allow for a balcony to be installed. The cinema recieved a new frontage and featured a cafe attached for the convenience of its patrons. It was equipped with British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound equipment and the proscenium was 32ft wide. It had stage facilities and three dressing rooms. The Palace Cinema was operated by S. Dorin & Partners.

In later years it was operated by S. Sedgwick & Partner, who closed the Palace Cinema in 1968. It was later demolished and a Sainsbury’s supermarket was built on the site. That building is in 2017 occupied by Boots.
