The Sundrive Cinema opened on 19th September 1935 with Richard Dix in “West of Pecos” and Bert Wheeler & Robert Woolsey in “Cockeyed Cavaliers” and was the first one opened by the Sundrive Cinemas company. It initially had 700 seats and was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. One source states it was later known as the Apollo but is still listed as the Sundrive Cinema in the Kine Year Books throughout the 1960’s. It closed around 1972 and was turned into a bingo-hall. In September 1998 the operators turned up to find that the locks had been changed which resulted in legal proceedings. The building was later demolished.
