Naval Cinema

Located in Immingham, Lincolnshire. There is some confusion as to the actual address of the Naval Cinema. Some sources say Pelham Road, some say Battery Street & Marsh Lane (which are not close to each other, another source said Pelham Road and Battery Street, (again not close to each other). The Naval Cinema was opened in 1924. It was a conversion of a large ex-navy corrugated shed to the plans of Grimsby based architect William Wells for the operator Albert Marshall of Caister on Sea.

It was said to be rather noisy when it was raining on the metal roof. It operated into the mid-1930’s when the Albert Marshall closed it due to his ill health. A week after closing youths set fire to the building and it was destroyed. All the equipment (which had already been sold to be fitted into a cinema in Retford, Nottinghamshire) was destroyed.
