Roswell Village Twin Cinema I & II

The Roswell Village Shopping Center was announced in 1972 and was scheduled to be anchored by a new-build Jerry Lewis Cinema. By the time this venue was finally ready to launch, Network Cinema’s phones were disconnected and Jerry Lewis had left the project. Star Cinemas took on this location along the Jerry Lewis Old Dixie, and Buford Highway locations. It had the opportunity to launch this location as the Roswell Village Cinema Twin I & II on February 1, 1974 with “Mary Poppins” and “Day of the Jackal”.

In 1975, the Star venues were then under the Septum Twin Cinemas / Septum Cinemas banner. Septum added the Brannon Square Twin nearby in 1978. Both venues were challenged at the start of the multiplex era when Roswell received a new quad at the Roswell Mall with 1,400 seats launching as the Cinema Centre in December of 1979. Operator Robert Busman was none to pleased but the little theatre just kept chugging. In 1981, the venue drew protests and lots of traffic when “Caligula” played two different runs.

In 1985, the writing was pretty much on the wall when Septum Cinemas launched its Holcomb Woods 6. And Hoyt’s built a ten-plex at the Mall to replace the quad turned five-plex in 1986. But the Village Cinema Twin kept on going until leaving on December 15, 1988 with Rebecca De Mornay in “Feds” and Gene Hackman in “Bat 21”. The space was repurposed for other retail ventures.
