This was the first Bayou Drive in to open in the district. It opened on July 25, 1949 and was operated by Moran & Lola McDonald. Costing $125,000 to build, it had a 60ft wide screen and initially had parking for 300-cars which was increased to 500-cars the following year. Listings at that time gave the location as being in La Marque. The McDonald’s continued to operate the Lamar Theatre in La Marque as they had been doing since 1941.

On November 1, 1965 the McDonalds opened a new 1,000-car capacity Bayou Drive-in at a new location in La Marque (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
