Not to be confused with the Kirkwood Cinema, the Kirkwood Theatre was located on Clay just off Lindbergh Bouleveard. It predates the Osage (aka Kirkwood Cinema) by a number of years. It was a small neighborhood theatre in downtown Kirkwood. The Kirkwood operated from 1924 until 1957. It has been demolished and a parking lot was constructed on the site.

I saw “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at the Kirkwood when it was a dollar show. I took a date to see “The Player” there in 1992, and the theater had become much more upscale by then. Last I heard, they were in the process of turning it into condos. That was several years ago.

Sad to hear they’re not showing movies here anymore. Visited this cinema in the nineties when it was an art house. Saw “Indochine”.
