Highland movie theater calls in Kickstarter
HIGHLAND, IL — When Justin McLaughlin bought the Lory Theatre, he had no idea how much work it would take to bring the theatre up to today’s standards. He did extensive renovations but did not have enough for a new projector. He’s now launched a kickstarter campaign to raise $50,000 for a new projector from Christie.

Fire destroys historic Orleans movie theater
ORLEANS, IN — No word yet on the cause but the Orleans Theater was destroyed in a fire last week. The owner had planned on converting the 120-year old building to a dinner theater.

The rise, fall, and possible return of Milwaukee’s Grand Warner Theatre
MILWAUKEE, WI — The former Warner Grand could come back as a performing arts space if the Grand Warner Trust’s plans come to fruition. There has been talk for years of it serving as a second home to the Milwaukee Symphony but a new initiative modeled after the highly successful Hennepin Theatre Trust that has restored several Minneapolis theatres has them more optimistic.

Historic Pikes Diner may once again become a movie theater
PIKESVILLE, MD — The former Pikes Theatre has been a diner for over 25 years but if new plans get approved, it could show movies again. The owners are looking to move forward on building a two screen theater in the back of the restaurant.

Leave a legacy at the Historic Clifton 5 movie theater
HUNTINGDON, PA — The Clifton 5 is looking to raise $250,000 to convert its five projectors. They’re utilizing a local non-profit, Landmarks Inc., to fundraise by offering naming rights for screens and seats.

Brooklyn Savoy demolition imminent
BROOKLYN, NY — After years as a church, the Thomas Lamb-designed Savoy Theatre has its days numbered. There is no word yet on exactly when but there are currently ‘rat bait’ warning signs on the building, which should kill all the rodents within, and stop them running to neighboring building once demolition commences.

Commack Multiplex demolished
COMMACK, NY — The former Commack Multiplex Cinemas is no more after being torn down recently for a Lowe’s store. The theatre struggled due to neighboring competition and had been in decline for years.

Hillsdale mall plans luxury movie theater
SAN MATEO, CA — Cinepolis is planning the launch of its next theatre at the Hillsdale Mall. The northernmost section of the mall will house the theatre which plans on having nine screens.
