Avon Theatre Reopens Today!
STAMFORD, CT — The Avon Theatre is finally set to officially reopen today. There were a couple of test screenings on Wednesday to run through the operation one last time before the theater reopens to the public. The projection was superb and the popcorn was excellent! (See previous story — includes photos of the newly-restored Avon.)

LONDON, ENGLAND — I’m organising an evening of old-style, burlesque cabaret entertainment with a film show and special guest speaker as the finale, and I’m looking for the perfect venue for the evening. See a Movie in Chicago’s Inspiring Central Park Theatre

CHICAGO, IL – “It may not get any better than this for history buffs in Chicago,” is the theme organizers are singing in promotion of a special event this weekend.
In fact, there’s no overestimating the uniqueness of a cinema opportunity this Sunday, Feb. 15, at the historic Central Park Theatre/House of Prayer building in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood, event organizers said today.

New Regal Theatre’s Future Still Unknown

Dinkytown Landmark For Sale
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Varsity Theater in the Dinkytown neighborhood of Minneapolis is for sale. The Art Deco theater remodeled by Jack Liebenberg in the 1930s is considered a local landmark. The theater is one block from the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus. The asking price is $1.2 million.

Movie Popcorn Creator Dies

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — Samuel M. Rubin, who was the first movie concession stand operator to incorporate popcorn into his product line, — and, thus, the creator of the decades-long tradition of popcorn at the movies — has died at the age of 85, according to a report on Yahoo! News.

Anthony T. Heinsbergen, whose Los Angeles firm restored the interiors of the Wiltern Theater, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and other landmark buildings across the country, many of whose interiors were designed by his father decades earlier, has died. He was 74.

DuPage Theatre Restoration Moving Forward
LOMBARD, IL — Restoration work on the 1928 DuPage Theatre in downtown Lombard is moving ahead, according to the DuPage Theatre Foundation, a non-profit group which recently signed a 20-year lease with the village of Lombard.
