I am not really a Drive In theatre guy. just trying to help out with this Almanac i have on Drive ins in 1956. My friend Nick, In Tampa was working the Drive-ins.
No i did not work here. I found a 1956 Motion picture Almanac in the old Miller Theatre and sometimes i get it out to help with infO.However, I did work at my cousin’s drive in free of charge when i was 16 and spent a couple of weeks there. I actually made a CHANGE OVER when the Projectionists got sick and had to visit the toilet. I did not to too bad, It was HOMBRE with Paul Newman. Non-union booth in Forrest City, N.C.. I heard that Drive inhad just closed up about a year or so.
Listed in the 1956 Motion Picture Almanac The South main parked 4oo cars,so there was no change. It was owned by Interstate Theatres which also owned the Sheppard Drive-in.

Tisloews, Just read your life as a theatre manager. I was making $200.00 a week at GCC as an assistant! but that was 1982- 83. I am sure you got a per centage of concession something an assistant was not getting at GCC. With all the hours we had to put in on salary it came to about $1.25 an hour with Kid Shows.Reg.Features and those midnight shows every GCC had to run!
I have Shots the concessionstand remodeled in the 60’s. Afew marquee shots. today, that old concessionstand is long gone and its open into the theatre. I have a shot of the BoxOffice at National Hills before it was opened to the public. I have opening night picture of the marquee I found in the booth. Various shots of the crew, but i don’t think folks would really want to see a bunch of cutting up in the lobby at National Hills. Have a few shots of Columbia 1 and 2.also. I guess i shouldn’t have even mentioned it because now i have to get these on.I don’t have clue how much a battery costs.
Iam at the mercy of a 17 year old daughter that knows how to do such things. When they get on I think you will like them. I just wished you would have snapped a few shots of your theatre days.
I am waiting for a battery still for the camera to send the pics. I really have quite a few of the IMPERIAL from the 60’s to the 70’s. I found some negatives of the Imperial At National Hills in the booth. It was pictures of the promotion for FIREBALL 500. I will get these on as soon as possible.
i have a good friend and we thought no one in the world would give a flip about exploring old theatres when we could slip in an old rotten exit door. Stomp in high grass watching for snakes at old drive in sites. When he told me about CT i just could not believe it.
I spent about 7 years in the Business before it went to pot. Even today i find it hard to believe there are other old theatre dawgs like Nick and myself. I always try to add truthful insight to any site i visit on CT. HAPPY HOLIDAYS GANG.
Well, THE KENWOOD DRIVE – IN deserves a bit more and here is a little history for Rozwell. In the late 50’s when Louisville had 5 drive ins, The KENWOOD was one of the large ones with parking for 700 cars.It was owned by W. Fields.

I think RICHARD BOAZ is operating the MONETTA TWIN DRIVE IN in Monetta,S.C.
Yes, both were released in 1981. We played HEAVY METAL on our Midnight Shows. Don’t think we played AMERICAN POP. I saw it on HBO in the early 80’s.
They were intrested in 1st run. That is why SOUTHGATE and SOUTHSIDE cinemas were not listed above.
