Thanks Nick. The Mark 1 I am pretty sure was not owned by the same outfit that ran the CINEMA.For one thing, their ads were always separate. But both theatres were in easy walking distances.

THanks Nick, If we could get Bill to give us some info, much more than i had we could do a pretty good history on this theatre. I know he was there the last night it was open. You need to drop him aline. He knows so much about the Aiken ,S.C, theatres.

AIRPORT opens first run at the MILLER and AIRPORT 75 will open there first run. SHAMPOO opened at the Miller and was then moved to SOUTHGATE cinema where it played 4 weeks more. THE TOWERING INFERNO was the big 1974 CHRISTMAS picture. It ran neck and neck with EARTHQUAKE across the street at the IMPERIAL. I sat in there probably for the last time and watched THE SHINING with a black audience that talked back to the screen constanly.Something you just dealt with when i worked at the IMPERIAL. One guy was playing a boombox, not loud, but enough to bother the heck out of me.

thank goodness i was seeing it for free. The mighty MILLER theatre was on its last legs. Rowdy moviegoers an honest to goodness boombox and no one working the theatre that really cared.

DMORG,,, THANK YOU . I never was that crazy about HEROES, but i knew KANSAS did the ending. AND here is one ..IN AMERICAN POP the end song over the credits was FREEBIRD, If i am not mistaken when i saw it on HBO i could have sworn they put a cover song at the ending.Boy, when you work at a theatre you pick up on so much.

Are English theatres alot different from ours here in the states? the names of the theatres really are different.I guess they had concessionstands,Poster and lobby card frames in the lobby. I guess all the movies were 35mm.And the product was it amixture of Hollywood and London film stages.

DEATH WISH plays to good LATE SHOW crowds. It is one of my favorite movies,so much so, that I talked Mr.Mackey into going up in the booth after Mr.Pete left on Saturday night and we got a reel out and we clipped a couple of frames of film out for me.

I wished i would have gotten the frame at the end of the movie where CHARLES BRONSON makes a gun out of his finger to some creeps that grabbed a lady’s packages and threw them on the floor. CLASSIC BRONSON. {i guess whoever played the movie next i hope they correctly fixed the print because we just used plain tape to put the film back together. I still have those clips} 1974.

1976 TWO MINUTE WARNING is doing good business, I took Bev. to it friday and Tommy was too busy to talk. Why, Mr.Tinney understaffs is beyond me maybe Mr.Biggs or Mr.Huff are on him I don’t know. At times THE IMPERIAL can get some decent films.

Everyone has been wanting me to come over and hear this DIMENSION 360 sound they just had put in the theatre for the movie DAMNATION ALLEY. I can’t tell a big difference except for those ugly speakers hanging off the walls. 1977.

Can you believe it withall the good CHRISTMAS movies out we are stuck with MOMENT BY MOMENT with JOHN TRAVOLTA and LILY TOMLIN. They said she had first billing, but TRAVOLTA is the only way to sell this flick. COLUMBIA ONE 1978.

THE COLUMBIA THEATRE in Harlem will turn the lights on the rebuilt marquee. They hope the town shows up and shows support. The Mayor quoted in the COLUMBIA TIMES-NEWS said “ IN our little town it will add alot of neat color"
The $69.000 project was partially funded by a $40,000 state grant. The story goes to state The project architect recommended a larger stage capable of holding two simultaneous productions, and reducing the flooring and theatre seating.

The marquee will set witha timer to come on everynight.

THEATRE JOURNAL May 14 1978

Charles called he is upset again at Jordan.Seems like Charles put up a Marquee and Mr.Jordan ripped him a good one. I never had anyone critize a marquee i did. Charles said “ He does even care about the stuff. He said Jordan lacks creativity .” .Will National Hills theatre ever become a peaceful place.

FROM THE I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP DEPARTMENT

Friday night Midnight show Paul Adams is running MONTY PHYON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. going fine until about reel four when WOW, The whole movie is upside down.Mr.Adams built the film and somehow got the tails wrong. UPSIDE DOWN MOVIE- soundtrack grabbled. Funny thing i think i only refuned one ticket and he said he was from ATLANTA ,so the refund ticket would be good up there. I just figured the crowd was drunk/ stoned and did not care or thought it was neat, The next Saturday the head Projectionist Chuck Dray got an ear full from Mr,Zacker. since it was no big deal with the moviegoers i guess Zack just wanted to give it to Chuck.
Can’t make this up .
