This isn’t a picture of the Cinema, though the two buildings shared a parking lot and were built in the same style and probably around the same time.

Hoods was a significantly bigger building, and had tan outside walls where the theater’s were crimson red.

The Cinema was where Aldi is now, adjoining the Wal-Mart parking lot.

This isn’t a picture of the cinema. This building had been Hood’s since I was old enough to remember in the late ‘80s, and probably significantly longer than that.

The Meramec Cinema was about 50 yards to the left of Hood’s, adjoining the Wal-Mart parking lot. It was built in the same style as Hood’s, though, but was smaller and had red walls instead of tan.

Aldi now stands on the former cinema site.

The photos shown are not actually of the theater. That’s Hoods, which co-existed with the theater, and stands about 50 yards to the west. The original theater was a smaller building and colored differently, though it was built in the same style. The theater building was a restaurant for a few years, and then the building was demolished. An Aldi store now stands on the site.

This theater opened in late November of 2003, just to supplement the description. The exterior of the Great 8 and Sullivan 6 buildings are quite similar, although they are configured a bit differently, but the interiors are very different.

Great theater, and I miss it very much. Much better than the current theater, which is less charming by a ton and costs 3 times as much to visit. I can’t figure out how to edit info on here, but it was a part of the Kerasotes chain since about a year after it opened. It began as an independent one.

It was also haunted. I worked there for 3 ½ years until it closed.
