Warner Cinerama Theatre 1953 – @ 6433 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA (Later to become the Pacific)

PHOTO : Museum of Modern Art, New York (Front of house display)

In an era when theaters were forced to compete with television by introducing widescreen, the venue was one of the few in Hollywood large enough to convert to Cinerama. After renovations, it re-opened on April 29, 1953 as the Warner Cinerama showing “This is Cinerama”.

The new screen was 28 feet by 76 feet with a 146 degree arc, and seating was reduced to approximately 1,500 to accommodate the new screen size. “This is Cinerama” played for 115 weeks, grossing a record of US$3,845,200.

The neon marquee is still up but no Cinerama logo. The Warner Hollywood Cinerama Theatre just sits empty year after year. Pacific Theatres needs to lease this Hollywood Blvd ex Cinerama Theatre out like they have done with the Cinerama Dome Hollywood.
