This Eros cinema photograph was taken on 30th May 1959 exactly a week after the closure of the iconic Davis Theatre just a few yards away. The final films are displayed on the canopy, although a small entrance there was a high frontage with a statute of Eros on the top of the dome which could be seen from a long distance. Saturday was a very busy day as can be seen by the crowds on the pavement, there was no Sunday opening in those days with the exception of J.Lyons & Co., Tea Rooms with their white front with gold lettering above, surviving until 1980.
