•
Back in the day - shortly after it closed as a theatre. This facade was demolished and a more “churchy” looking front was installed, complete with a bell tower.

 •
Marquee - on 72nd St. west of Third Avenue, where the entrance to the Tower East apartment building is today.

 •
Marquee in the 1950s

 •
Note the curved canopy which showed the live acts. Other photos show the film title on banners rather than on the marquee. Next door is the second Bijou theatre. Library image used with permission.

 •
Second Marquee. Note the coming attraction is “Love Me Tender” which is said to have had a private showing for Elvis Presley and friends before the national premiere in this theatre. Private collection, used with permission.

 •
Note that Loew’s has sold the theatre and the vertical has been altered to read “State.” Private collection, used with permission.
