Kallet Civic Center

Opened as the Kallet Theater in 1938. It was closed in 1974 following the Kallet Theater chains takeover by CinemNational. After closing, it became a skating rink. After sitting vacant for a number of years, the Greater Oneida Civic Center Inc. leased the building from the City of Oneida in February of 1983 and began renovating the building. The Kallet Civic Center opened in April of 1983.

The architects of the Kallet Theatre in Oneida were Bley & Lyman (Lawrence Bley and Duane Lyman), according to an Libbey-Owens-Ford ad in Boxoffice, November 12, 1938. This might have been Bley & Lyman’s only theater. The ad is the only reference to them I’ve found in Boxoffice, and all the Internet references (there are a lot) are about non-theater buildings.

Most likely closed as a movie theater in 1974 following CinemaNational’s purchase from Kallet that February.
