While serving as a U.S. Senator from Delaware and campaigning in 2007 for the presidential nomination, Joe Biden (born 1942) authored a book ‘Promises to Keep’ (2007). In the book, he wrote that when growing up in Scranton, he and his friends ‘would head down to the Roosie Theatre for the 12-cent double feature-usually a pair of westerns or Tarzan’.

The Roosevelt Theatre opened on April 9, 1925 with Richard Barthelmess in “Classmates”. It was equipped with a Kimball organ. By 1941 was operated by Paramount pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Frank Walker. By 1950 it was operated by Comerford Theaters Inc. Later becoming an adult theatre, it closed circa-1975. It was turned into retail stores.

This was strictly an X-rated theater in the 1970s.

The Roosevelt once became a porn house, but new management completely turned the adultery down in August 1977. The Roosevelt closed on July 19, 1984 with “Conan The Destroyer”.
