The Mt. Burney Theatre was built in 1940 and its single screen provided entertainment to the Intermountain Community in Northern California continuously since then.
The current owner was renovating the theater for four years and following completion it featured a DTS (Digital Theater Systems) sound system, new 24 wide seats, natural hardwood floors, a new 33' screen, and neon lighting on the front facade. It was closed in 2021 during the Covid-19 Pandemic and has since remained closed.

After using the same address, at the same location, for 67 years, the U.S.P.S. changed the address of this theatre to 37022 Main Street.
The renovations have been going on for ten years now.
The 1963 motion picture almanac lists the Mt. Burney Drive-In in Burney, with a car capacity of 200. Operators were Walter & Chester Roff. I’m not adding any more drive-ins, so this one is ready to add if anyone is so inclined.
Wish whoever took these pictures would have knocked on the door and/or rang the doorbell and come in for a tour. I was inside—that is my car and kayak parked out front. You would have been impressed with the inside. Donna Sylvester, Owner
Still in business and soon will be converting to digital projection.
Status should be changed to closed. It hasn’t been open since 2021, and COVID-19 appears to have driven it outta business.
