Above address is incorrect. Approx. address for this drive-in was 802 West Mount Vernon Boulevard. Part of Davis St. was the entrance. though barely visible, some ramps are still there.
The address that jwmovies gave of 802 West Mount Vernon is the correct address. The drive-in had a capacity for 200 cars. Kisted as open in 1954 as the Rollers Airway Drive-In. By 1968 it was called the Rubles Drive-In. Th theatre was still listed as open in the late-1980’s.
“MOUNT VERNON, MO. – Ralph Roller has sold his interest in Roller’s Airway Drive-In here to his partner Elson Roller. The drive-in will be operated this summer by Elson and his wife.” — BoxOffice, Jan. 31, 1953
Closed after the 1993 season.
Jesse “Jess” Ruble opened the new-build Ruble’s Drive-In Theatre on May 1, 1964. The Rubles had purchased the Rollers Airway Drive-In equipment which was further demolished for the 1-44 onramp. Mother nature had taken care of the screen tower that closed that operation on May 26, 1963. The Ruble’s operation lasted to the end of its 30-year leasing agreement.
A closer address is 518 W Mt Vernon Blvd, Mt Vernon, MO.
This address lines up where the entrance to the drive-in used to be.
After closing, the drive-in was still intact in 1996, but had been demolished by 2005.
Today, L&M Tire and Auto sits on the former entrance road, but the outline and ramps of the drive-in are still quite prominent.
