The Champions Village Twin was a remarkably small cinema for this high traffic area. The theatre was a typical non-descript, 1970’s design, opened on September 19, 1973 with Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music” & Gene Hackman in “The Poseidon Adventure”. The cinema closed on July 5, 1987 with Red Steagall in “Benji the Hunted”, the animated feature “The Chipmunk Adventure” & Nicolas Cage in “Raising Arizona”.
The reason for closure was AMC had opened the North Oaks 6 about a mile east on FM 1960.

Saw something called THE MILLION DOLLAR HOBO(1978) with Tim Conway and SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT(1977) here.
Was it an AMC from May 1977 to March 1979 when i lived in the Houston suburb of Aldine?
This ended up being an SRO Sports Bar I think.
Opened or placed its first ad on September 19th, 1973.
Opened with “The Sound Of Music” in Screen 1 and “The Poseidon Adventure” in Screen 2. It was last known as AMC Champions 2 and closed for the final time on July 5, 1987 with “Benji The Hunted” in Screen 1 and “The Chipmunk Adventure” and “Raising Arizona” in Screen 2.
