I don’t know who the hell cut out that grand opening advertisement three days before its official opening, but the good news is that its grand opening advertisement on the exact opening date was found.
The Capitol opened its doors on February 28, 1930 with Jack Oakie in “Sweetie” along with the talking short “Marching To Georgia” and the Paramount Screen Song “Dixie”, featuring sound installations of Western Electric, and the original Morton Opera House likely opened its doors by manager Fletcher Terrell on September 27, 1900 with a live presentation of “Maloney’s Wedding”.
Closed on November 20, 1974 with “Moonrunners”.
History: This opened as the Morton Opera House in December 1900 and renamed Garrick in 1912. On July 12th, 1928 the Garrick theatre burns down. It was rebuilt and reopened on February 28th, 1930 as the Capitol theatre, which closed on November 20th, 1974. It was at the NE Corner of Union & Cardwell.
This opened on February 28th, 1930. Grand opening ad in the photo section. Had a “colored” balcony.
February 25th, 1930 ad is missing:

I lived in Madisonville in the 1970s and remember going to the movie at the Capital Theatre ..then they opened the two theatres out by the shopping center ..wasn’t the same … and the theatre became a parking lot .. these days would be nice to have it as a reminder how great movies use to be
