The 849-seat Strand Theatre was opened January 17, 1923 and operated by Cohoes Amusement Company. By 1935, it was operated by the Schine Circuit as the New Strand Theatre. It continued to operate until at least 1957. It became town offices for Hudson Falls.
On October 7, 2016 it was purchased by Hudson River Music Hall Productions Inc. a 501c3 not-for profit, who raised funds to completely restore the theatre. By January 2017 some events had been held in the lobby area (which had a capacity for 49). The Strand Theatre has had a restoration and was reopened on October 17, 1919 with a seating capacity for 350. It presents a mix of concerts, theater, and movies.

The September 7, 1935, issue of Motion Picture Herald said that the Schine circuit’s New Strand Theatre at Hudson Falls, New York, had opened over the weekend. It was not clear from the item whether this was an entirely new theater, or if Schine had simply taken over and renovated the older Strand Theatre.
We, Hudson River Music Hall Productions, Inc., a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, purchased this Strand Theatre on October 7th, 2016. We are in the process of renovating and restoring this theatre. We have located a newspaper article from the opening night, January 17, 1923. We are trying to locate photos, particularly of the interior. It has apparently been changed several times over the years. We are SO excited about this project and have already renovated the lobby area and to the point that we are able to hold small events in that space!
The November 4, 1922 issue of Moving Picture World said that “[t]he Cohoes Amusement Company is busy these days completing the new theatre at Hudson Falls. The opening date has not yet been set.” The house had been in the planning and construction stages for a long time. An item datelined Hudson Falls in the July 9, 1921 issue of Exhibitors Herald had reported that “[a]rchitects Wetmore and Crandall of Glens Falls are preparing plans for an 8OO-seat theatre to be erected here by Cohoes Amusement Company.”
Hudson River Music Hall Productions opened the Strand’s renovated auditorium in October, 2019, with 350 seats. Here is the official web site.
