Goodluck,Ansonia Theatre.
In the early seventies it was called the NEW ANSONIA THEATRE.
“HALLOWEEN 2” played there Rated R.According to management No one under 18.
A lot of blaxploitation movies played at the ANSONIA too during the early to mid-1970’s. I fondly remember seeing “DOLEMITE” on the same triple bill as “COOLEY HIGH”,and “CORNBREAD,EARL AND ME”. The following week in July of 1975,the ANSONIA played another double bill with “THREE THE HARD WAY” and “TRUCK TURNER”.
Just learned of this theatre while at the Center Theatre 75th birthday party in Monroe NC…David Nelms and Nathan Hopper are restoring it.
The Ansonia Theatre opened its doors on August 3, 1925 with Reginald Denny in “I’ll Show You The Town” alongside an orchestra performance. It was once closed on December 23, 1979 because of the departure of their operators, but reopened on July 31, 1980. The Ansonia continued operating as a movie house into the mid-1980s, but was already closed in the 1990s.
