The Golden Nugget Theatre was your typical small-town theatre. It was more or less a store front wide. The Golden Nugget Theatre was opened on February 12, 1966 with Jay North in “Zebra in the Kitchen”.
The venture was short-lived and the Golden Nugget Theatre was closed on October 9, 1969 with Walter Matthau in “A Guide for the Married Man”. It was managed by Jim Gilchrist. He was the former manager of the Center Theatre in Grundy Center, IA and the projectionist was Charley Brown from nearby Lincoln, IA.
The community has since built a new theatre and event venue in about 2002 or 2004.

The Golden Nugget Theatre opened its doors on February 12, 1966 with Jay North in “Zebra In The Kitchen”, and closed on October 5, 1969 with Walter Matthau in “A Guide For A Married Man” along with a cartoon due to increased freight/film charges and failed to draw major audiences.
Todd West operated the theater throughout its life, and was managed by the husband-and-wife team of Jim and Alma Gilchrist.
