Since there is little available information on the Ritz Theatre we’ll have to let vintage photographs tell the story of this desert town cinema. It was one of four theatres on the sides of Town Square, the Ritz Theatre being on the east side. The Ritz Theatre was opened on July 15, 1936 with James Dunn in “Don’t Get Personal”. It was closed in 1963.

Since at least 2008 it has been occupied by a pawnbroker.

The Ritz Theatre of Altus was mentioned in Boxoffice as late as September 4, 1961, when the house was being operated by Bill and Viola Cleverdon. The Cleverdons were also operating a Ritz Theatre at Eldorado, Oklahoma.
