The Gem Theatre opened at least by 1910. It was equipped with sound to remain commercially viable. It was given a streamline moderne makeover for July 18, 1941. The Gem was equipped with widescreen to present CinemaScope films the theatre appears to have closed in January of 1958. The vacant theater was purchased along with the Central Hotel in 1971; both were razed that year.
