The Rialto Theater was located at the corner of Carew Street and Newbury Street, in the Hungry Hill section several blocks from the Liberty Theater. The Rialto Theater was designed as a typical 1920’s neighborhood theater. It was closed in December 1930.

It became a dance hall for 2 years. This was followed from 1935 in use as an A&P grocery store.

The property is at 892 Carew Street. The building still stands and is now Junction Skate Park:

Junction Skate webpage is gone. From Google view, it looks like it now houses a used appliance store.

The Rialto was a fairly short-lived theater. During the Depression it gave away free linens every Monday, free vanity wear on Tuesday, Big Country Store items on Wednesday and free cosmetics on Thursdays. The Rialto closed in December of 1930. It became a dance hall for two years. It was then converted into an A&P grocery store in 1935.
