Cine Sala X

Located in central Barcelona, near the University of Barcelona and Rambla de Catalunya. The Cine Oriente was opened on 9th February 1940 with Raimu in “La Casta Susana” & Ronald Colman in “Lost Horizon”. A conversion of an existing building, the 450-seat cinema was designed by architect Roberto Oms Gracia. Following a remodel to the plans of architect Raul Cilento, it reopened as the Cine Roma on 14th July 1976 with with the Argentian film “La Raulito”. It had a reputation of playing second-rate films but occasionally films of note such as “La Strada” and “Roma” were screened.

On 19th July 1984 it began to screen adult movies, the first being “Porn Schoolgirl”. It was part of the Sala X chain of Spanish sex cinemas. The Cine Sala X closed around 2004 and in 2008 it had become a Chinese restaurant.
