The Joy Theater was in a small corner building with a red trimmed marquee that sheltered the entrance and outside ticket booth and wrapped around the corner of the building. Above the entrance was a red vertical sign that had "Joy" spelled out with large white letters. The Joy Theater was opened December 24, 1941. It was closed on August 6, 1966 following a 17-weeks run of Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music”.

This opened on December 24th, 1941. Its grand opening ad can be found in the photo section.

1941 was a busy year for new theatres in the area. The Annex in Pineville on June 20th, Don two days later and the Joy on Dec 24th.

Closed on August 6, 1966 after a very long extensive run of “The Sound Of Music”, which played nonstop at the Joy throughout its last 17 weeks of operation.
