Opened as Rollins Crossings 18 on November 20, 1998. It was renamed Regal Round Lake Beach 18 by the end of 1998. It was the second movie theater to be built in Round Lake Beach (the first was built less than a mile away and demolished years before this theater was conceived).

The Regal featured stadium-style seating in all of its screening rooms.

The Regal was repainted and had all of its neon replaced in 2007. It was closed on February 12, 2023. In April 2026 plans were announced to reopen the theatre with 7-screens.

SET TO REOPEN IN 2006 AS 7 SCREEN FUN N FURIOUS ENTERTAINMENT CENTER. PICTURES POSTED. … The Village of Round Lake Beach and Thakkar Developers are excited to announce a vacant movie theater in the Rollins Crossing Shopping Center will be transformed into a vibrant family entertainment center.

The new facility, located at 550 E. Rollins Road, will feature an array of attractions, including seven movie screens, a full-service restaurant, games, and other exciting amenities.

The 72,000-square-foot entertainment center will also offer axe throwing, a potential multi-level, indoor, electric Go-Kart track, and space for meetings and parties.

Thakkar Developers is expected to submit final plans for the development this summer, with the anticipated grand opening in 2026.

“We are thrilled with the plans we have seen already by the developer,” said Round Lake Beach Mayor Scott Nickles. “When this facility opens, it will offer something for everyone and truly be a major draw for Round Lake Beach, attracting not only residents from our village, but visitors from across Lake and McHenry counties.”

The movie theater, which had been closed since January 2023 due to Regal Cinemas’ bankruptcy and subsequent closure of 39 locations nationwide, will now undergo a major revitalization under the vision of Thakkar Developers of McKinney, Texas.

This project marks their second family entertainment center concept and will be modeled after their planned center in Irving, Texas.

“This new project will not only create local job opportunities, but it will also position Round Lake Beach as a go-to destination for families throughout Lake County,” said Gil Rivera, Economic Development director for the Village of Round Lake Beach.

Round Lake Beach officials recently toured the Texas-based facility, where they were impressed by the concept and potential for success. With the transformation of the property, this new entertainment hub will join existing community partners in providing retail, food, and family-friendly entertainment venues in the community.

“This project, along with the addition of new restaurants currently in development, is a continuation of the Mayor and Board’s vision of enhancing our already vibrant retail and entertainment corridor,” said Gil Rivera.

About Thakkar Developers Thakkar Developers is a mixed-use development company based in McKinney, Texas, with a strong focus on creating dynamic spaces that enhance local communities. This project represents their commitment to bringing innovative family entertainment options to new locations.
