The State Theatre was located on Main Street at 2nd Avenue SW. It was listed as operating prior to 1941 and beyond 1950.
The theatre has been closed for some time. Offices for Eckhardt Enterprises now occupy the building.

The tag on this theatre says it was demolished, yet a Google search had a November 2001 photo of this address. A “Letter to the Editor” of a 1939 issue of LIFE Magazine caught my eye. Roy T. Hill, the manager of the 246 seat theatre, wrote a small bit regarding Warner Bros selecting his STATE THEATRE and State Center (population 1,012) for the “world’s premiere” of their film “Pride of the Bluegrass”.
The current building in Google Street View at this location is identical to the building in the picture. Although extensively remodeled, the number of upper window openings and doors are the same. I don’t think it was demolished.
